2026-2027 Berkeley First-Year Counselors

Aliza Allison

Aliza Allison

Aliza (she/her) is from the small town of Red Bank, South Carolina. She is a History major as well as a Midshipman in the Yale Naval Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. Outside of academics and NROTC, Aliza plays on the Yale Women’s Rugby team. When she’s not at practice, you can find her going on runs through East Rock, lifting weights in the Berkeley gym, or playing pick-up hockey. She loves to watch sports and will happily explain why her favorite teams are better than yours. She has spent two summers working on horseback at C Lazy U Ranch, nestled among the Rocky Mountains in Granby, Colorado. A big fan of side quests, she once spent a semester learning to fly planes. Aliza is so grateful to call Berkeley home and cannot wait to meet the Class of 2030!

Kathleen Cain

Kathleen Cain

Kathleen (she/her) is from Maryland and is majoring in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. She has spent her undergraduate years doing cancer biostatistics research at YSPH’s Townsend Lab. At Yale, she has also served as an Undergraduate Learning Assistant for statistics, an intramural sports secretary for BK, and a member of the STM Undergraduate Council. Outside the classroom, she loves giving back through the Passage Program and making blankets for the NICU. She is a maker at heart: you’ll find her in the kitchen experimenting with Southeast Asian fusion recipes inspired by her Malaysian mom, and in the CEID, creating builds that let her continue using the woodworking, 3D printing, and welding skills she learned from her dad. She’s also always on the hunt for New Haven’s next best study spot. Ask her about getting involved in service, finding the best study spots in New Haven, BK IM sports, navigating pre-med research, her latest recipe or build, or music– she listens to just about everything and loves talking about it. Be prepared for duty nights filled with good food and even better playlists. Kathleen is super excited to meet the newest members of the best college on campus! (And, of course, for Berkeley to win the Tyng Cup this year!)

Yoselin Colin

Yoselin Colin

Yoselin (she/her) is from San Francisco, California, and is majoring in Political Science with an Intensive Certificate in Human Rights from the Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs. At Yale, she has been involved with the Yale College Council, Yale College Democrats, Yale Undergraduate Prison Project, Yale Model United Nations, Berkeley College, the MacMillan Center, and both the Office of Career Strategy and Office of Fellowship and Funding. During her summers, Yoselin has studied abroad in Paris and interned with the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco district office, and the Post-Conflict Research Center in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the academic year, she also interns with the Federal Public Defender’s Office of Connecticut! In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors (whether that’s walking, hiking, having picnics, or studying on Cross Campus), attending sports games, and watching films and TV shows with friends. She is also a major fan of traveling and exploring new places! Yoselin can’t wait to meet the newest members of the best college on campus :)

Amira Ibrahim

Amira Ibrahim

Amira (she/her) is from Poughkeepsie, New York, and was born in Niger before growing up in Ghana. She is majoring in Neuroscience and pursuing a certificate in Global Health. During her summers, she studied abroad in Paris, was a Dwight Hall Fellow, and a Wu Tsai Institute Undergraduate Fellow conducting neuroimmunology research.

At Yale, Amira conducts research in the Favuzzi Lab and volunteers at Yale New Haven Hospital. She is also involved with Matriculate, Yale Black Muslims, and Yale’s Step Team. She works as a Berkeley College Aide and serves as a Disability Peer Mentor.

When she’s not in class or the lab, you’ll probably find Amira hanging out with friends, theoretically going to the gym, or ordering the exact same thing from the exact same restaurants. Although she’s a creature of habit, she loves traveling and hearing about other people’s travel experiences. She genuinely loves talking to people and is always happy to chat about almost anything. Amira is also always looking for a new show to watch, especially anything involving multiverses, whether animated or live-action. Ask her about navigating Yale as an FGLI student, pre-med life, research opportunities, studying abroad, finding community at Yale, or your latest TV obsession. She can’t wait to meet the newest members of the best college on campus!

Harsh Patel

Harsh (he/him) is from Chicago, Illinois and is majoring in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology with a certificate in Global Health Studies and is interested in working towards making healthcare more accessible to underserved communities, both domestically and internationally. Outside of class, Harsh has spent time as director of the Education department at the Haven Free Clinic, working on dengue and Lyme disease research in the Fikrig lab, interning at the School of Public Health for the Global Health Emerging Scholars program and working as a BK College Aide! Whenever it’s warm you’ll definitely find him on Beinecke Plaza or Cross Campus with coffee spending time with friends whenever the sun is out. He’s super excited to meet everyone and welcome them to Berkeley!

Kyan Ramsay

Kyan Ramsay

Kyan (he/him) is originally from Memphis, TN. He is majoring in Political Science, but also enjoys English and creative writing. He’s Berkeley College’s #1 fan, having served as president of Berkeley College Council, a Yale College Council Senator, and a college aide.

While at Yale, he also led BlackOUT, Yale’s club for Black LGBTQ+ students, and previously worked at the AfAm House as a student assistant. During his summers, he’s worked on Capitol Hill, clerked for a circuit court judge, interned with New Haven’s Public Defenders Office, and conducted social science research on the Black Manosphere and Gay Republicans. Kyan’s faves include New Haven pizza, collecting comic books, sunbathing on Beinecke with friends, Airheads Xtremes Rainbow Berry Bites, reading celebrity memoirs, listening to Amy Poehler’s podcast, and sipping the mango dragon fruit lemonade from the Elm. But most importantly, he can’t wait to meet the class of 2030!

Bipul also writes about people’s conceptions of themselves and others during the Middle Ages. Outside the lab and classroom, Bipul was the Online Editor in Chief of the Yale Record and claims responsibility for whichever of their Instagram posts you find funny (he has nothing to do with the Instagram posts you do not find funny). He was also Co-president of the Nepali Students Society, a STARS I peer mentor, and contributes to various campus publications. Bipul enjoys hiking, photography, re-watching Arrested Development, and listening to music from around the world. He is excited to meet and support Berkeley College’s class of 2030!

Nick Vela

Nick Vela

Nick (He/Him) grew up in Salinas, California, and is double-majoring in Ethnicity, Race, and Migration Studies and Political Science while pursuing a certificate in Spanish. He hopes to pursue a career in immigration law, motivated by a desire to support undocumented communities and help people navigate systems that often create barriers rather than opportunities. Throughout his time at Yale, Nick has been dedicated to building community across campus. He has been heavily involved with Mecha de Yale, where he works to educate and advocate for Hispanic/Latinx communities, both on and off campus, while highlighting shared cultural experiences. Alongside this work, he currently serves as the Senior Chief Aide for Berkeley College and previously served as a Peer Liaison for La Casa Cultural, where he helped first-year students navigate and foster a sense of belonging at Yale. Around campus, you can often find Nick listening to Music in Berkeley South court, hanging out in the Coqpit (BK buttery), or spending time in spaces like La Casa. Outside of Academics, he enjoys spending time with friends, trying new food spots, dancing, and playing tennis. He is super excited to meet and welcome the class of 2030 and help make Berkeley feel like home!
